The Tree of Life: A Dream of an Organic Myth of the Cosmos

One evening a man climbed a large hill that overlook his village.  He stared into the night sky looking at the stars and thought about the problems facing humanity.  When all of a sudden to his surprise several stars came down and dance in front of him.  They were stars of light and two of them appeared before him naked as a man and a woman.

They said on to him "behold the wonder we will show you".  The naked man and woman returned to their being as spheres of light and went up into the night sky to join the other spheres of light that had come upon the man.  They began a dance, a circle of spheres of light each connecting to one another and moving about as if they were doing a celestial dance.  At times the spheres would partially merged with one another and would reveal naked human beings. They were male and female, some were females with females, some were males with males, others were males with females and all were partially merging with one another in groups of 2,3,4 and more. Then they all combined to create a large sphere of radiant light.  Within the sphere the lights seem to implode and then explode creating a multitude of stars swirling around and in time the man saw what looked like a universe form, complete with galaxies. There before the man, floating in mid air was a great sphere containing an in universe.

Then they, the two beings of light reappeared to him, again naked as before as man and woman. "What you see is an embryonic universe", they explained.  They offered their hands to him and he took them and went with them into this universe floating before his eyes. They appeared before a great arch, a doorway that you could see through to the other side.  The man could walk all around it and it led nowhere.  There was a great tree besides this arch.  They led him in through this arch and he found himself in a great Hall or temple.  The temple was of great beauty and it had emerald floors, fountains of golden light and a violet colored dome.  There were some naked people walking about and seemingly communicating with each other.  In the center of this great temple, floating in mid and air, was a sphere with a universe within it. They led him back through the arch and before him, as far the eye could see he saw a great host of arches with great trees at their entrances fading into the horizon and he was filled with awe.

In a twinkle of an eye, they then led him back to that hill overlooking his village and before him still floating in the night sky was the sphere with a universe within it.  The naked man and woman spoke to him and said, "Your species has evolved to the point of a great challenge, a cusp time, that if it solves its problems with love, wisdom and freedom, then you all will evolved into an immortal species and achieve the destiny we have shown you".  With having said this, the naked woman and man returned into being spheres of light and disappeared into that sphere floating in mid air containing a universe.  Then that sphere shrunk down to nothing and disappeared into night sky.  Upon seeing all this, the man awoke from his sleep and wrote this vision is down.

I had this dream many years ago now. At the time of this dream I was in Jungian analysis and going to college to become a clinical social worker. At this time I had come to accept several assumptions as truths.

The first truth was that human psychology, informed as it was by the five senses, its unconscious, conscious thought and intuition, create a “lenses” by which a human perceives and operates in reality.

The second the truth was that the objectivity of reality might only be assumed due to the limits of human psychology. I assume that the objectivity of reality does exits but not necessarily in the way I perceive it through the lenses of my psychology.

Third truth was there is no rational proof to any belief system and irrational experience at best can only lead to an emotional conviction and faith in a “good” belief system.

Fourth truth was though humanity could not know what objectivity is humanity and its self-conscious has a relationship with what objectivity is.

For objectivity is like a school of fish just below the surface of water where we cannot see them yet their activity create waves. Objectivity is the power creating a pattern of waves that manifests humanity and this pattern of waves is what science calls the universe.

Humanity both collectively and individually is a function of this universe and expresses subjective awareness of objectivity through pattern recognition of the created order. This order is what I believe most people refer to when they speak of nature and is what I mean when I speak of nature.

The order of the universe is a system and as such it has an almost infinite number of sub-systems going from very large to infinitely small. The system on whole is a Macrocosm – Microcosm continuum that infinitely recapitulates or reproduces, wherein each Macrocosm is a Microcosm of a previous continuum and each Microcosm is a Microcosm of the next continuum. Science can describe such a system with the mathematical concept of Chaos

When I envisioned the order and the system that is our universe as organic then the Myth of the Trees of Life arouse in my dream. This myth has been informing myth of Self both spiritually and psychologically since then.
