To the Good Folk of Sweetwood Temenos, Earth Day 2006

Dear Sweetwood Folk

I ask you to remember what a beautiful endeavor Sweetwood Temenos is. We are a network of Friends and Friends of Friends with a common value system, an evolving customs and culture and a desire to hold in common as sacred a piece of land. This sacred land is to be a place where humans can relax, love one another, celebrate, contemplate, worship and commune with nature through the land. The land is to be a mixture of wildness and tameness and a place of Peace, Love, Freedom and Wisdom.

To the degree that the land is enclosed by the plantings of wild plum and hawthorn, the land is becoming an enclosed park, garden and orchard or pleasure ground; what the Greeks called a paradise. To envision our endeavor as manifesting a piece of paradise on earth is noble and an act of devotion to both our Earth and to the Divinity we witness in each other.

What beautiful idea that a group of folk could hold in common stewardship apiece of land to invoke and manifest a piece of paradise upon our Earth! What a great goodness it would be if we could pass along down to the descendents as a legacy, a piece of paradise!  Our success and good fortune would be like a torch showing the way for other good folk of modest means to act collectively and cooperatively in holding in common stewardship apiece of land to invoke and manifest a piece of paradise upon our Earth!

The good folk of Sweetwood live near and far. Some now live in the great Northwest, some in the flint hills of Kansas, some in the Land of 10,000 lakes, some in the Great North Woods between lakes Superior and Michigan, some on the shores of Lake Michigan and prairies of Illinois, some on an isthmus where glaciers ended and some where the last glaciers did not go. Although scattered about we are kin and I believe blessed for our endeavor we call Sweetwood Temenos. I give thanks for all of you and all that you have shared! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
